Flanged Maintenance Pipe (FMP) is an engineered split steel casing system that provides superior mechanical protection for underground and bridge-mounted utilities where service must not be interrupted. Manufactured in the U.S.A. by Ironhed LLC, FMP is produced from steel plate, rendering a split casing that assembles precisely and has no sharp edges or burrs; enabling a faster and safer installation than can normally be achieved using cut and welded pipe. FMP utilizes continuous side flanges assembled with staggered joints when, once bolted, provides a strong unitized duct - without the need for couplers (on straight runs). FMP is sized to sleeve over existing IPS pipe and conduit, since FMP’s I.D. equals IPS’ O.D. FMP is bolted together with provided 18-8 stainless hardware, allowing simplified re-entry if necessary.
WHEN GASKETING IS REQUIRED, Ironhed provides VISCOTAQ-ST sealant tape to be field applied between the flanges, and when mated, provides a >1.8mm visco-elastic seal that forms a barrier to water and oxygen and is also highly resistant to corrosion and petroleum products. Wrapid bond may be applied to dry or submerged pipe without loss of adhesion and is suitable for above and underground pipelines. Butt seam gasketing is accomplished by applying a lateral layer of Wrapid Bond to the both casing exteriors parallel to and just overlapping the seam, onto which is installed an external half coupler or “strap” which bolts through the flange, drawing the gasket material into any voids between the outside of the pipe and the inside of the strap as well as the seam itself. This coupling also adds additional mechanical strength to the duct.
Larger sizes in heavier weights include the integration of lifting eyes to each piece, allowing safe placement and adjustment in the trench.
